I can support this kind of Hacker

I have never given too much thought about the impact of hacker groups such as Anonymous and LulzSec on our country or the world until now. Lately these groups seem to be performing a new type of public service in the form of online vigilantism against one of America’s most ignorant organizations, The Westboro Baptist Church.
This is a cause I can support because don’t let their name fool you, if they are a church then the Ku Klux Klan is just a bunch guys that like dressing up in white sheets. This hate-mongering group is mostly known for picketing the funerals of soldiers that died in Iraq and Afghanistan because of America’s stance on gays and lesbians.
Apparently what these hackers are doing has a name and it is not new, hacktivism, which according to everybody’s favorite resource Wikipedia it

“is the use of computers and computer networks as a means of protest to promote political ends”.

The hackers such as Anonymous and UGNazi have been targeting the WBC this week because they said they would send protestors to Newton, Conn. to picket the funerals of the children killed in the shooting last Friday. The reason to support this type of hacktivism is as an article in The Huffington Post so clearly states:

“Members of the Westboro Baptist Church believe that America is being punished for its acceptance of gays and lesbians. In recent days, Phelps family members have sent tweets about the Connecticut shooting that have said “God sent the shooter”.

One doesn’t have to look further than the their website to see how awful these people are, in fact I don’t even want to repeat their hate so I will just let you Google them and see for yourself, never mind don’t give them the satisfaction.
The “church’s” spokesperson, Shirley Phelps-Roper, said last Friday that it would picket the school to “sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment [sic].”
Apparently their decision to send people to Connecticut was enough for the hackers to intensify their takeover of the WBC’s websites and Twitter accounts.
The Twitter feed for Anonymous posted this message in regards to the church’s praises of the shooter and their intent to picket funerals, “Don’t fuck with little kids, especially their funerals, unless you want to get fucked back”. You can check out their full intent in the video imbedded below.

There have been numerous articles written about Anonymous’ attack on the Westboro Baptist Church but two of them really caught my eye. The first from Zap2it and the second posted today on Informationweek.com. They are really interesting because the WBC sounds like some crazy off-shoot of the Nazi’s and yet they are somehow still tax protected because they are considered a “church”.

Anonymous states it will “progressively dismantle your institution of deceitful pretext and extreme bias, and cease when your zealotry runs dry.”

The WBC claims to be a church, therefore it is tax exempt, but yet all they really stand for is hate. The WBC is the cancer that eats away at America and unfortunately they use their religious affiliation as a platform to distribute their vile hatred.
According to an article from Informationweek.com “members of the hacker group Anonymous have been urging people to sign a White House petition calling for Westboro to be labeled as a “hate group” and to have its tax-exempt church status revoked by the IRS.
I have to urge anybody offended by this group to sign the petition and voice their disgust.
