My father passed away from cancer on September 20, 2009; eight months later the 2010 sailing season was gearing up to be a rough one.
My dad’s death took a serious toll on me and I wasn’t looking forward to getting back on the boat without him.
I had been sailing with Peter my whole life but he was always just a crew member, trimming the jib or flying the shoot, now he was our new leader.
Peter had been sailing most of his life but he was never the skipper so there was a bit of concern from the crew that he may be getting in a bit over his head.
With everyone still becoming familiar with the boat we decided that we would hope for the best but prepare for the worst in 2010.
Remarkably, we finished second in our class at the Cleveland Race Week and third in our class for the season.
